I don't think those writings are authentic. Certainly, Napoleon had a great admiration for Islam but to say that he was infact a Muslim is quite a stretch.

I don't know who you are, but you have obviously decided to suspend your logic and faculties of reason.

Even if he NEVER said he was Muslim, it isn't even a stretch to say "he had a great admiration for Islam" and that he was actually a Muslim.

If I said I hated Islam and someone asserted I was a Muslim, that would be "quite a stretch"
But to say someone had a great admiration for Islam, and then assert he is a Muslim, that is NOT quite a stretch.

One can have a close admiration for something, yet not believe in it. This is certainly true in religion. For example a Christian can be fascinated by the concept of fasting in Islam and be completely intrigued by it, yet that doesn't mean he/she subscribes to the other tenets of Islam which he disagrees with. Similarly, a Muslim person can appreciate a Buddhist concept, yet still be a practicing Muslim.

Napoleon was fascinated by certain principles in Islam and he held the Prophet Mohamed (SCW) in a very high esteem, that doesn't mean Napoleon was a Muslim. In fact, he once said among other impressionable comments about Islam, "I hope the time is not far off when I shall be able to unite all the wise and educated men of all the countries and establish a uniform regime based on the principles of Qur'an which alone are true and which alone can lead men to happiness." However, even his secretary attested to the fact that he wasn't one. Napoleon much like any-other wise leader used religion for political means. Never for faith-sake. That's a very important point that needs to be noted.

I am saying it is not quite a stretch, in fact it is a logical conclusion that someone who admired Islam on many levels, not just one, to in fact be a Muslim.

If I admired the main tenets of Communism, would you be surprised to learn that I was infact a secret Communist, or would you say: "I should have known, it was staring me in the face".

On the same token, Napoleon, after his Egypt expedition said many things that clearly go against the grain in terms of Islamic teachings.Also, Napoleon was a man of contradictions. Most historians will agree that Napoleon was not religious. This is the man who famously said, " Religion is excellent stuff for keeping common people quiet."

I would be very careful in saying Napoleon was a Muslim. I would even go further than that and say; saying so is borderline stupid.

All I am saying is; no serious historian will make the claim that Napoleon was a Muslim. The man was many things but a Muslim he was not. Some people believe Elvis and Tupac are alive and kicking it in Brazil. I don't.

I raised the point that this is what is in his diary, and you claim not to believe it solely out of opinion, which you're entitled to have, but you only claim it is absurd but provide no reason as to why it would be.

We both established his affinity towards Islam, but you say it is absurd that he did in fact become Muslim, whereas I say that unless these diary entries can be proven to be forgeries, he DID in fact become Muslim.
