This young man who works with me and lives in my building passed away. It's not so much that he died but the way in which he did. He was a very decent human being, a quiet family man, with one of his kids' the same age as mine. We took the train together on the way home and were chatting about mundane things. When we got to the building's lobby, while we're waiting for the elevator, I see him wincing and inhale sharply. He tries leaning against the wall and collapses as I reached for him, his eyes rolling to the back of the head and his body convulsing violently. I'll spare you the other details because It's difficult to recall, let alone being witness to it. The worst of it, for me, was the reaction of his wife when she came upon him. The ambulance arrived a short time later but he was already gone by then. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. This is a preamble to my point here which is that from time to time in khiyaaliga iyo hadrada la iska daayo oo la is waaniyo wey haboontahay, and I know that we tend to lose track of the important things while we're immersed in the rush-rush of the everyday but I just wanted to remind you all that this existence here is only for a fleeting moment, marka Insha'Allah Ilaahay ha loo dhawaado oo cibaadada ha la badsado. Inaa lilaah wa inaa ileeyhi raajicuun!
