"Economic progress in Somalia is decidedly mixed. As of January 2007, Somalia is still a fragile state with hundreds of thousands of refugees due to massive floods and the latest fighting of the civil war. However Somalia boasts lower rates of extreme poverty and, in some cases, better infrastructure than richer countries in Africa[1]. However with a GDP of $600 per capita the country is still extremely poor.

There are signs of growth in Somalia:

if we just cleaned up our act, we could develop into a African Power

most of africa could be very successful if it isn't for american and european multinational corporations buying favors from corrupted african leaders to exploit their people

First of all thats pretty unislamic thing to say. To be muslim to care for all our brothers and sisters in humanity whether muslim or not. And I hope you haven't forgotten but you are African. Just thought I'd remind you.

Second, How old are you? I really want to know.

I'm 20. Lived 18 years in America. Grew up around non-Somalis (thank god). My mother and father are educated. I grew up with pride for my people in Somalia and Africa cause thats where I'm originally from.

Maybe I wasn't raised by a single-parent jahil like you.

Or maybe I am not 40+ years old on a message board without a job.

I know most Somalis above 30 or born to uneducated parents are IGNORANT and that is why Somalia's only hope are kids like my educated in the West. Kids who are built with the conceptions of brotherhood for all African peoples cause UNITY is the only way we can escape from the situation we are currently placed in.

You need to do more research on this topic man. I'm actually a major in International Comparative Studies in college. I've taken many courses on why there are certain regions of the world that are developed and other that aren't. There are a myriad of reasons but the most powerful force is the influence of multinational corporations primarily from the United States and Europe on Africa and South America. These two continents are the least developed in the world and there has been a history of exploitations by multinational corporations and institutions.

The World Bank and IMF are among the two institutions that are among the leading causes of rampant poverty in Africa. Their policies of structural readjustment in African nations as well as their use of aid money as a tool of leverage within the governments is one of the leading causes of why there is such poor infrastructure and human services development in Africa.

I think you need to open a book once and a while. And here is a good one for you to begin with....
