It is not only in 'clear' cases of Kufr that rebellion against leaders maybe allowed. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that you can rebel before this, especially from the lives of the Sahaaba. There are lots of examples such as in the case when I think Salman al Farsi or another Sahaabi stood up and said Lan Asma wa Lan Aai'tu when Omar ibn Khataab said Ismau wa Aati'u. However you are right for raising the question of whether we can rebel against leaders, it is an area of controversy and there is evidence on both sides of the debate. Where you are very wrong is in thinking that Islamically Sheikh Sharif is in fact a leader. Islamically he doesn't meet the requirements- which are to be in control of the land rather than the U.S.A thinks I'm a okay guy now ( incidently the western idea is pretty much the same that you have to have a monopoly on force to be a leader) So the whole question of rebellion is not relevant since there is no authority to rebel against.
