What Skills/Trades Would You Like To Master?

Postby Kolombo » Wed Feb 11, 2009 2:29 pm

Last night I watched an interesting documentary about a self-taught black sculptor. It said that he tried to buy a house in a prominent white neighborhood somewhere in Alabama and was rejected. Why? Because the neighbors complained since he was black, he would probably never keep a clean & trimmed yard. This served as his motivation and sent him on a quest to not only prove everyone wrong, but to prove that he could do a better job than anyone out there, all on his own.

He has won 10/14 annual county garden competitions and his yard gets a sizable number of visitors every year. Also, because of his garden, home values in his area have skyrocketted since he moved in to the neighborhood.

He reminded me of my own desire to someday become a skilled pottery maker & black smith. And pick up archery along the way as a sport. They offer courses for such trades at most colleges.

What would you like to learn/master?

Ismahan,

Don't hate, awoowe.

Fah,

What about a leisure skill or an actual trade?

AW,

Mechanics make as much as doctors in some States. Under-appreciated skill, but it has good pay-offs.

Kolombo,

I got a friend who worked in Caato's garage. He was a miracle worker but he is too lazy to get certified and prefers driving a cab.

AW,

My older brother finished Polytechnico in Somalia back in the day. Today, he is a much sought after mechanic, specializing in electric wiring. Even flood cars don't stand a chance in his shop. He can re-wire a whole car in a day.

Gifted,

What about photography?
