Map Of Potential High-Speed Rail Built By The Stimulus:

In a last-minute change, the total quantity of funds available was increased. But there's no special plan for Las Vegas. The money will be spread all across the country. As it happens, I think an LA-Vegas HSR line is a perfectly reasonable project. But in practice the areas that will get a leg up should be the Federal Railroad Administration's officially designated high-speed rail corridors. As it happens, LA-Vegas doesn't make the cut. But guess who does have such a corridor? Ohio!

This is the same thing FDR did to get America out of the Great depression of the 30s. Its expensive & massive, but its probably just what is needed to give a major shock boost to the economy. More fuding for pell grants, unemployment, food stamps, tax credits for car buyers & home buyers. Boost to health care, education, public works, law enforncement, construction.

Funny thing is both of Georgia's republican serving senators voted against the bill, but Georgia will get over $2.4 billion as a result of the stimilus bill to spend on its infrastructure & in the process probably create over 50,000 new jobs. Whose interests are the GOP serving again?

so he (obama) had this agenda even before he became a president. I hope this ambitious plan backfire on him.

politico: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0209/18924.html
As a candidate for president, Obama spoke of high-speed rail as part of his vision of “rebuilding America.” Campaigning in Indiana, he talked of revitalizing the Midwest by connecting cities with faster rail service to relieve congestion and improve energy conservation.

AW,

Government waste is inevitable. But what is different this time around is the money is actually going to the right sectors of the country. With Bush you had $450-$1200 rebate checks for most tax payers with the intention that they will go out there & spend to revive the economy. All it did was add another $700 billion debt to the country's deficit. Rather than trying the same old tired fiscal bail-outs & tax breaks, Obama's administration is actually planning on spending on states & government agencies to create jobs which is what is needed the most. With jobs, you have people with money to spend again and the economy picks up.
