My misguided and confused friend is in some social trouble and I would like your perspective
Let's call her Miss Q. well, Miss Q works at a large investment firm in New York. A few months ago she went through the interview process for a firm in LA -- she was so confident that she would get the job that she told everyone at her workplace she planned on going to firm X, which is actually very well known. Well, due to a catastrophic financial meltdown, things with the LA office did not work out. WELL, she continued to tell everyone she was still going to Firm X. However, after sometime, realizing how everyone knows everyone in this industry, lest she be found out, she began telling some people that she was working at some small, unknown firm in LA. In conversation with another group of people she told them she was looking for a job in LA and had nothing set up. So she's basically maintaining 3 different stories w/ 3 different groups of people.
Well, all these groups of people started speaking to each other and know everyone knows she's been lying about everything. (I'm not sure people know she's totally lying, but they think she's shady). Anyway, people have begun giving her shade and being standoffish. She is in tears and doesn't know what to do. Should she tell everyone that she came with all these lies to hide her shame ? Or should she concoct some story that ties all these together and makes it work ?
Any advice ?
