i know u don't want to hear about death and cemetry's on a friday. exciting day. pay day and the weekend, but seriously something real important has come to my attention. so anyhow, my mom and i go to local hospitals every now and then to visit the sick and today one man we visited happened to talk about where Muslims in Ohio get burried particularly Somali's. it's been years since i've been to the grave, and the last time i visited was when my uncle's wife died back in 05. apparently the place got packed and now people are burried in a near by cemetry on sunbury rd. <---( familiar to ohio folks) Long story short, the man was talkin about how the place is so tiny and that it could barely fit all the people that die and get burried there no a regular basis. sadly, this is not the first time i've heard this. i heard other people talkin about it when the last guy from ohio passed away about two weeks ago saying there is no way all the people who passed away could all fit there and still have more space. thus, they all came to the conclusion that as soon as the dead are burried they somehow take the bodies out and do something with it. subxanallah, i cannot imagine dying here and even more scary to know that our loved ones cannot rest in peace in their own graves. inshallah i plan on doing something about this, but i was wondering if you all have this kind of issue within ur communities?! if so, what do you all hear and what have community and religious officials done about it?!

Subxanallah. Maya there are plenty of burial ground here for Muslims. Few years back the main Muslim cemetery got full, so money was collected and another land was purchased. Do you guys not have a board committee like the Islamic Association that deals with these sort of things. Here even Rochester has two burial grounds for Muslims, and I think till now one is mainly used b/c there is plenty of space.

ismahan, people in Ohio aren't that advanced abaa and sadly Somali's are separated from the larger Muslim community. other muslims live in other more established areas, but this problem only affects Somali's. personally, i had no idea this was an issue. i know the mosque is working on meel meeydka lagu dhaqo. in fact, they were collecting money this past Ramadan, but i have no idea what they plan on doing about this issue. it's really sad walaahay!

theres plenty of room here too... if it gets full... people donate for another space

fah, this is reality my dear. this is what people of low SES have to go through. Somali's in MN, and VA are more educated and well off, lakiin Ohio Somali's are disadvantaged really!

I'm sure there is an Islamic association is OHIO that takes care of these sort of things. Where do other Muslims bury the dead? Why don't you guys(religious figures actually) get together and meet with other Muslims and find ways to work together.The cemeteries here are run by Arabs and Pakistanis, but we have Somali representative usually people from each mosques or Islamic centers who deal with them when a Family is in need to bury a loved one. It really shouldn't be an issues. Unless you're talking about meel dadka Somalida un lugu duugo?B/c that would be a different story.

Are the somalis seperated from the larger muslim community by choice or is it something forced upon them by circumstances? indians, arabs, other asian groups etc. tend to seperate themselves intentionally from what i have witnessed in the past so i doubt its the somalis fault that they have little to no connection with other muslim groups.....that is if that is the case.

i honestly don't know. i don't think we're too focused on being separted from other Muslims, but rather finding a place big enough for everyone!

qansa. it's a HUGE problem, and it needs to be resolved ASAP!

next time you go to the mosque, make sure you tell that to the congregation when they have those question and answer sessions.

So far i have no knowledge of this sort of issue but, i heard some guys from the Islamic Society talk about this a while back and they mentioned that smaller villages within the UK are encountering this problem!

^^ it was really scary for me too when i first heard it. i couldn't believe it. i mean it could be our relatives, friends. people dear to our hearts. it's really terrible. at first i thought maybe it was because of the "organs" and such, but now i don't even know what to think.
