Those features(slender nose, lighter skin etc) is not unique to somali's or east africans. I think the fulani also have those same features, plus are muslim.

The only thing that puzzles me is that historically the Fulani were always very strong, they had kingdoms, they had universities, and they had large standing armies well into the 20th century that remained recognized as major local powers.

How did this man, and possible other Fulani, end up as slaves, but the weak, illiterate, divided Somali people always remained free?

Even the mighty Habesh were once slaved, but Somalis always somehow remained untouched.
