Good debate here, gentlemen. Like in ages.
I have to agree both with Biko and Mad Mac in some points.
I'm agree with Biko in the machete methaphore. For me, the worst terrorist attack on History was not 9-11, Madrid or London. The worst of all them were Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Many American people (included Truman) tried to justify it in order to preserve AMERICAN lives because something like Normandy wouldn't have been possible. They thought about a great Japanese insurgency. False: there wasn't any Japanese insurgency once the USA troops were in Japan and Japan surrended. So, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were more an experiment than extremely hard measures in order to stop the war.
I'm agree with Mad Mac in the point that Islamists are blaming USA or the West for all their problems, which, in my opinion, it's not true. It's true that European colonialims for the past centuries destroyed the natural borders in Africa, created political systems which had nothing to do with African cultures, traditions, way of life... But it was over 50 years ago. Not all problems comes from the West and there's not a Western conspiracy against muslim countries. That's a lie created and fabricated by islamists who, like -isms, need to create an enemy to call it "they" for them can have something called "us". "You're with us or you're with them", or "You're with us or you're against us". All fascisms have used this tactic to gain people and to use people with political aims: German nazis with german nationalism (the jews were The Others), Franco in Spain (The communists were The Others), Pinochet in Chile (The communists are The Others). You first create an state of rapped-proud of your identity, blame to others of all your problems and create an enemy. This tactic is being used now by islamists against the Weste. And it's a lie. All dictatorships first exterminate the inner "enemy" (the "us" who don't think like we want them to think) and when they have made a inner cleanse, they prepare themselves to fight the "Great Satan".
You don't need to be Isaac Newton to see it. Look at the history of Crusades. "Us against Them". And we are coming back to the Middle Age.
But now we have planes, bombs, atomic bombs.
Some people here is trying to fuel this feeling of anger and animosity in both sides. In both sides they're all burning Al Quran books and the American flag. Insulting each others.
As Rolling Stones said: "You'd better stop, and look around... Here's comes your 19th nervous breakdown".
