From what I've heard, a lot of the male Somali students who came to the states in late 70s and early 80s ended up 'marrying' African-American woman just so they could stay in the U.S., but they never stuck around for long ( even if there were children in the picture). I wouldn't be surprised if there were more 'mixed' Somalis like her.

I asked some of my friends this question (when is a person a somali when mixed?) and as we are talking, the idea that emerged most was if the father was somali then they can be considered SOMALI and if not, the mother was a HO!! ... sorry to put in such harsh words but... she had to be!!

**

Also... The first african player to be play for italy was Fabio Liverani who is half-somali...

Since when are jamaicans the only other race?
And who are you to decide what race a man/woman can/can not be with?

(She is a Jamaican somali)
(Its my opinion, I am not forcing it anyone throat plus it was more of a joke than something that needs any further clarification)

I think you take things too seriously than is required. the case presented here is what we discussed... if she could be considered a somali or not.... and we came to a general agreement over the parameters I have already stated. We didn't really draw any list and NO! it was not really a serious discussion....We joked and laughed about how she may look like..etc

I am not prescribing my opinion to be the opinion of all Somalis nor do I have that power so its pointless that you ask things like "who are you to decide what race a man/woman can/can not be with?"...

are you always this serious about everything? .... I clearly put an LOL smily there for a reason.

This is true. I know of a few of these guys in this area.

They married, they maybe had a kid or no kids at all.... then they divorced the woman. Theres this one guy who went to Kenya and married a Somali girl... already has a kid with her but he is still married to his madow wife of 20 odd years (no kids)...smh

One time, there was a campaign event for a local Somali running for a poisition in the State gov't.... and there was a guy there with his mom... and the guy's dad was apparently in the same room but he doesn't want anything to do with them.

Pretty focked up.

I actually know a guy on campus who is Half Somali... his mom is from Trinidad and thankfully his Mom is Muslim.... his dad is dead but I wouldn't be suprised if his dad was one of the Somalis who came here 20-25 years ago and their visa ran out and they had to marry a black woman to stay in the USA.

When the USA implemented their immigration reform in 1987 under Reagan, it gave a lot of people including the few Somalis that were here illegally amnesty and a way to get their citizenship.

My dad who was my age when he came here in 81 told me a few men he knows divorced their madow or cadaan wives shortly thereafter and ended up with most of their current Somali wives.
