Those claiming they are from arabia are misgiuded thats all.
It a proven fact that Somalis as a distinct racial group and speaking
a older version of todays dialects have been in existance since 1500BC
at least.
Anthropologists diffrenciate proto-somalis from Oromos and Afars our closest cousins.
as early as 1500 years before christ, let alone Arabs.
Earlier than that they trace the expansion of the cushtic tribes from the
Sahara/Sudan down to Ethiopia in the 3000 BC and as far south as tanzania, before the
much later immigration into the area of the bantus.
Saying all this i want to state that having an arab ancester as the father of your clan is a totaly different matter.
You are a somali and you know that people do keep a very accurate oral history of thier clans, and that they can grow to large numbers.
If my sub, sub , sub, sub, sub, sub clan can be in the 10,000 range
its not to difficult to believe the shiekh isaaq story.
Sawahilis as thier name states (saaxili) are the coastal inhabitants of east africa.
You cannot ignore the clear history of the cities of Malindi, Mobasa
kilwa and several others that have developed as a result of the extensive Indian ocean trade, and the racial mixing of Iranian(mostly Shirazi) and arab traders even before islam.
You ignore the historical signifigance of the memoirs of Ibn Battuta who has travelled into that area.
and the somalis demonstrating in Kenya in the 30's were not demonstrating to pay more taxes.
They had violent demonstration demanding a review of thier status
to be seen as Asian not african so as to get more rights.
As you know the british colonialists comprimised and awarded them a new
designation as non-native africans with the rights of asians not africans.
For example somalis did not have to shop or eat in Native only shops or resteraunts, and thats one of the main reasons for resentment against them by other africans.

As per your quote of the voluntary excess tax Somalis levied on themselves in the 30s, I am assuming you are secretly proud of that albeit your poor attempt of criticising it. Old man, rejoice the "Class" you belong to.
Lionzion,
You sound like a poor misinformed African-American Negro, who is under the impression that Africa is one big country full of fufus who are all the offsprings of one Big Mamma and are enjoying a cookout of chickn bbq. Boy, there are classes, races, feature charecteristics, lingo, and a whole lot more that distinguishes one African race than their next door neighbor, and if you are expecting an African utopia where they all dance to the tune of the same drum, you are in for a shock my misguided Jamaican friend.
Why wouldn't they be? If you mean "black", "African" people, I would say yes. But that would only lead to confusion because most ignorant people think ALL black africans only look and act a certain way. Usually with negative connotations thanks to europe and the middle east.
It is amazing how people ONLY read what they want to read. Simple minded ones. PLEASE READ THE ABOVE!!!!
Where did I say ALL Africans are the same? I said the EXACT OPPOSITE if any of you can read more than one paragraph. Then again, I've noticed most of the posters who replied aren't exactly the brightest at this site.
Secondly, whomever said that the ancestors of Somalis migrated south into "the area of the Bantus" is totally wrong. The "Bantu" people are the ones who migrated south. Southern Africa was home to the Twa, or "Bushmen". Actually, the ancestors of the Somalis migrated North from the areas of Tanzania and Kenya. That'a why the maasai have similar facial features.

twa or bushmen are a completly different racial group
and far older than both cushites and bantus.
and yes you are right cushtic migration was northwards
but thats after 500BC , when the bantu migration from the niger /kongo
area reached tanzania and kenya.
It would be accurate to say that the bantus bearing more technologicaly advanced iron weapons displaced the cushites.
the previous migration i was talking about was 3000BC from the Sahara/Sudan ,
masai are slightly similiar becuase as nilotes they shared the same ancesteral land in nubia with the cushites.
history is full of change

READ my post thoroughy before you reply with such idiocy!! I CLEARLY stated in the first paragraph that ALL Africans are NOT the same, though all "black" people share common characteristics. Learn to read and comprehend thoroughly before you reply!!
Secondly, your post alone demostrates my second point thoroughly. Why if one did Africa is the same, would images like you just described come to mind? Big Mamma? Ckickn bbq? What the F$%# does that have to do with Africa? The Boers in South Africa are the ones more famous for bbq "cookouts" than the black people there. Also, like I said , you seem more intent on marking the "differences" than what ALL the people have in common, which is MUCH more than skin color. Tell me, would you feel more comfortable with the people in Germany or Russia, or Malawi or Kenya?
Funny that you can find more ignorant people with closer ties to the continent than the other way around!

Lionzion,
Do you see the irony here? you are trying to tell me who I am, a man who has roots, heritage, culture, geneology and language, whereas you, are the product of a line that is void of all those characteristics.
For heavens sake you don't even know your daddy from the next Tyrone on the street. You may have red a book or two (Which I doubt, Fufus are not fond of reading, they fall asleep) and watched National Geographic Channel and WALLA!! you are an expert. Boy, it takes more than that to acquire the knowledge of a continent and it's inhabitants.
