My mom says

"SUFI BAAD TAHAY" in a loud angry voice

is that just her or do somalis say that?

All Somalis. When I see an unstable person or impulsive/eccentric/unmanageable,etc I say "waa iska sufi".

She is trying to say he is crazy

Crazy is the root meaning of the word Suufi, people that used to do a lot of abnormal stuff and engage in a lot of Bidca used to be called Suufi and today. That’s how the Suufi sect of today originated. May Alllah guide them and us Inshallah.

my father uses : wa nin iska suufi ah, as this guy has a clean heart and doesnt understand malicious people who act nice to him. in other word as arabs say: 3ala niyaatah.
