Reading the mentally colonized black African man's subservience (by reinforcing colonization = salvation) to the White man, I am reminded of the colonial officer in Somalia Gerald Hanley in his book "Warrios: Life and Death among the Somalis"

Interesting observations and very accurate...thats why i always say i wished i lived in those times. Somalis in Somalia now all want to escape Somalia so they can go and live in Western Nations. Begging has become second nature to them...

We are in a difficult/ugly phase and we have brought ourselves into this mess. Nonetheless, our self-esteem and unique qualities described in that piece Voltage posted are true to this day.

Even in this ugly period in which we have become one of the poorest, most unfortunate people in the world our strong spirit and high self-esteem have not been tamed and we still dare to dream of reaching the top of the world.

Insha allah, we only need to mirror our reality to our self-image. Either one of the two has to change, our self-image (which throughout the centuries has not changed) or the conditions we live in. I believe that it is time for Somalis to create conditions that prove that our self-image is correct.

It's a shame but somalis nowadays are they complete opposite of what they used to be. They used to be brave, fearless and noble, now we have suicide bombers, warlords, corrupt politicians begging for foreign aid and intervention.
