The government has warned that Kenya is ready to defend her national and strategic interests. Internal Security Minister George Saitoti says Nairobi is keeping an eye on the events in Mogadishu and says Kenya will not hesitate to protect her sovereignty.
Kenya is already feeling the human cost of the war in Somalia with scores of Somali citizens being flown in from Mogadishu for medical aid. Citizen TV has established that over 50 war victims landed at Wilson airport and are currently admitted in various hospitals in the city. Thousands of others are surging into the border in northern Kenya seeking refuge. Somalia's president Sheikh Sharif Ahmed is now calling for the imposition of martial law in a bid to contain the Al Shabaab insurgent militia group that is currently on the verge of toppling his transitional government.
