Do You Recycle?

Postby Kolombo » Thu Aug 06, 2009 4:42 pm

Today I got my recycling bin and 100 blue bags from the county. I have officially joined the civilized world. Plastics, bottles, newspapers, junk mail, you escape me no more.

Seriously, we as Somalis fail in this department. We should be more enviromental concious. Even from a religious perspective, yeah?

I noticed some people keep a compost container for their organic by-products and then re-use it in their gardens, brilliant.

Yeah this has become compulsory in the UK for about 3 years or so. Almost a full time job for my mum lool. I drink a shit load of milk everyday and theres like a good 10 bottles for recycling by the end of the week, looks so ghetto.

The average person in N America produces 4.6 lbs of garbage per day and it turns out 60% of it can be recyled but never is.

All it takes is personal responsibility, nothing to it.

It depends how you go about it. If you collect the plastic jars and cans, you can go to a recycling center or even a supermarket that has the recycling machine. You load it up and get paid for it. But if you want the garbage collectors to pick it up with your garbage, then you must buy the bin and blue bags from the county. Then once every week (for me its Wednesdays), the garbage truck comes and picks up the recyclables.

Its very rewarding, you should definitely do it.

For the past three years, I ate nothing but organic foods. Earlier last week, there was a study published that concluded there is no difference in the nutritional benefits between Organic and non organic products. Seriously do you know how much a gallon of Organic milk costs?

Anyways, I go green. I dont ask for plastic bags at the grocery store even. I have a cloth shopping bag to put things each time.
