As for the home ownership, I look at it as an investment. I didn't need a mortgage, so its all paid for since it was a bank foreclosure and they were kinda desperate, I cashed in on it. The only expenses I'm looking at is the property tax which is fairly decent, utilities and the annual maintenance fees here & there. Since I have an equity I'm worth something, my insurance is down, my credit is improving, etc. And I can always sell it again when the market picks up.

Almost every Somali who can put some together has bought a house, without interest. That in itself is an accomplishment. Getting some of that American dream the halaal way all thanks to the recession.

What system? Nobody wants to go to a federal penn here. Like you said prices are much lower here, so families can put what they got & borrow the rest from friends to pay it off.
