I laughed and they said 'Won't you have some shame!'

assalamu aleykum, i found this poem, i think its deep.

I laughed and they said 'Won't you have some shame!'
I cried and they said 'Won't you smile?'

I smiled and they said 'He only shows off!'
I frowned and they said, 'What he has concealed has come out'

I was silent and they said 'Incoherent'
I spoke and they said 'He talks too much!'

I bore patience and they said 'What a coward
And were he to have power he'd surely punish!'

I was brave and they said 'He strikes with it
And were he to rule, he'd surely be reckless!'

They say 'wierd!' when I disagree
And call me 'opportunistic' when I agree

So I became certain that whenever I wanted to please people,
I am to be criticised.

And it is said: رضى الناس غاية لا تدرك - "pleasing people is an objective that can never be attained."

Wa Alaykum Assalam bro, and Ramadan Kariim. Thanks for sharing that with us...you're one of the few posters here who I look forward to reading their threads as they're always interesting and informative, including this one.

The subject of the poem reminds me of some Naseeha one of the Sheikhs gave to the congregation earlier today at Taraawiix...he was mentioning how the hypocrites at the time of thr Prophet SAW would mock the Saxaba RA in their contribution to charity...if they gave alot, they'd say "Surely he is showing off!"...and when the poorer Saxaba RA donated the little they could manage, they'd say "Surely Allah SWT is not in need of that little bit you have come with!", so people are gonna talk about u regardless of what you do, if that's what they set out to do.
