Ahlu Sunna Wal Jam Claims Defectors From Hisbul Islam Have Joined Them

A spokesperson for the moderate Islamist group of Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama Sheik Abdiriszaq al-Shairi said that two days ago defectors with battle wagons and other arms from the more militant group of Hisbul Islam that controls the city of Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan Region, have joined them.

Sheik Abdirizaq said that his group welcomed the soldiers with open hands and warm hearts. He added that the soldiers defected from Hisbul Islam and joined their group because their disagreed with how Hisbul Islam is conducting its operations. Sheik Abdirizaq called on the other youth who are still fighting for Hisbul Islam to follow suit and join his group.

There have been reports in the last couple of days saying that battle wagons and military vehicle that provide security to the Defence Secretary of Hisbul Islam Mr. Muusa Abdi Araale, who is currently in the city of Beledweyne, have defected and joined Ahul Sunna Wal Jama.

On the other hand, a confidential report we have received from sources close to Hisbul Islam say that Hisbul Islam’s plan to establish an administration for Hiiraan region, in particular the city of Beledweyne, have been halted after disagreements surfaced between Hisbul Islam and al-Shabaab who control different parts of the region.
