because it found a way to exploit other peope insteatd of their own! Britain knew if it keep exploiting their own people the country wont move forward in terms of economy. the only way to make money was to exploit other people like Asia and Africa-caqligaana ilaah baa siiyay dee! unlike somalis once they had countries and people they can exploit they had Markets for goods overseas (eg in the colonies), A big navy – to carry goods and to protect the merchants. they had Agricultural Revolution which = Plenty of cheap food which = Rising population – more people to work in the factories, and to buy the goods. they had Plenty of coal, Cheap raw materials (eg cotton). Skilled workers not needed in agriculture which led to Entrepreneurs – people who organised it – raising money, buying land, building factories, hiring workers, selling goods. they also had New inventions (eg water frame).

all in all the British Empire was the largest formal empire that the world had ever known.

Evil empire which is one of the reasons why this Island with few natural resources is now one of the richest countries in the world.

They used to mind fuck every country they colonised, divide and rule people and get them thinking that Britain was superior to them. One of the greatest empires of all time.

While all the continental European powers had to maintain large land armies for protection against each other and land invasions, England is an island who built the worlds greatest navy which is used to project its force with no risk of France or Germany really crossing the Channel with troops. No worries of Napoleon or anything of the sort, for the most part. When air warfare became a reality, power was ceded to the US.

This can also be applied to the US currently, since it has a two ocean buffer and there is no risk of land invasion from Mexico or Canada, meaning rather than maintaining an expensive land army, they are able to use those funds in other more constructive forms, hence their status as a hyper power.

There are multiple other factors, but this one is particularly important. Discount everything else in this thread, it's nonsensical. How can colonization/"exploitation" explain their power? Colonization of other nations was a result of their power.

Funniest thing is how they use to steal resources from both Asia and Africa and somehow fool them into buying it back. I.e stealing wood from India, putting it on UK cargo ships, sometimes make furniture from this wood, take a short trip and come back to India with the same wood to sell back to the Indians.

The British allong with most of Europe were still prescribing bleeding to cure all medical problems all the way upto
the 1860's.

Taking a bath only became popular among the middle classes during the same period, when even in india people washed themselves sveral times daily.

Oral hygine and use of soaps and shampoos also became popular quite late...


The British along with the europeans only became influential int he world becuase of their mastery of warfare.
It took them until the 1750's to catch up with India and china in technology,
and until the 1850's to catch up in medical technology..


but ofcourse they brought about extremely boring authors like Jane austen and the Brontee sisters..
