Too many fake Somali Musicians..Are you one of them?

Postby TZ Somali » Tue Nov 03, 2009 7:10 am

The other week I got shocked yet again, it seems there has been a pattern lately at least in the Somali Music scene. It has been a phenomenon that I have recently witnessed from the four corners of the world that I have traveled during the course of my adult years. By now you must be wondering what my qualms are? Here are my qualms. I have noticed there has been an explosion of Somali Musicians; today it seems many of us aspire to be nothing else but musicians even those without modicum of talents be it instrumental or vocals for that matter.

I recently attended a friend’s friend wedding held at marvelous location, the venue was immaculate-beautiful setting worthy of the occasion everyone was suitable dressed for the happy union unfolding. But the music was awful trust me coming from someone who lack the basics of Somali language. It was live from the get go, one after other so called musicians subjected us with sounds of tortured my ears were begging for a break but to no avail. The singers were without an ounce of talents. Every one of them hides their awful vocals behind a full-volume beats coming from pre-recorded CDs.

I for one was cringing not at the lack of talents but the shear audacity and the lack of ‘hishod’ there was no inclination by them that they were yelling at us and camouflaging it as music. I have seen in ‘youtube’ and in many other DVDs that these new generation of musicians don’t poses a modicum lyrical talents but a well verse at recycling the lyric of the long dead and forgotten Somali talents. I found sort of musician annoying, I am not captivated by their fraud I won’t dare myself to lend an ear not even second to these lots.

I hope I am not burning the entire forest due to few rotten trees. Having said that I wonder have you notice as well in your city/country?

No qabil talk…Thanks

The problem is somalis tend to pay attention to the song rather than the actuall artist, nearly all the artist who came out last 5 years all became famous without having no originality, for example lets look at the likes of King khalid, he has many fans but the guy doesn't have 1 actuall tune thats written by him or that hasn't been sang before, i wouldnt call that a musician but a remixer
Its like becoming a famous musician on other peoples work.

I got your point..I have no problem with reusing the lyrics and making of a new music etc. What I find annoying is individual with no vocal talents
picking up the mic to get notice while ruining what was destined to be joyous day. Its a travesty of justice If I were to compare these hoodlums to king khalid...there is no comparison.

What blasphemous nonsense are you peddling here, devil? Away with you and your sensible quest for proper singers at weddings! Where is the joy in that? Somali weddings are the equivalents of X Factor/American Idol. They allow us to view emerging talents at first hand, and many a famous Somali singer made their names in such weddings. Now you come here and try to shut those eternal gates just because your ears hurt when hearing some of the not too great sounds?

What next? Ban the ciyaar Somali on account of the ugliness of the skipping old ladies? Ban girls with hair extensions just because you believe they're frauds? Ban scowling brides and sweaty grooms? Ban young men from congregating near the ladies toilets?

As for the lyrics of the old songs, weren’t most of them written by actual poets rather than the singers that sang them? Did Magool write any songs? Xassan Adan? Saado Cali?........

Leave the Somalis alone warya.
