Donated medical supplies head to Somalia

Rochester, MN (KTTC-DT) --A few months ago, we told you about Abdiaziz Maahay who has brought Somalian women and children with severe medical conditions to Rochester. Of course, he can't help everyone, but now he's bringing the help to them.

Monday afternoon, Maahaay and some volunteers loaded up a 40 foot truck with donated medical supplies, equipment, and other useful items. The donations come after 4 to 6 months of collecting them from across the country. Mayo Clinic was also a big donator of the equipment.

Maahaay says these supplies could mean a world of difference for those suffering in Somalia.
"It's helping children and women who needs medical attention. Somalia has had a civil war and has closed a lot of hospitals. Now we have a few hospitals that have medical shortening and equipment, and we're trying as a community to help out."

A driver will bring the supplies to Louisiana, where it will board a ship bound for Somalia. Maahaay will meet up with the equipment in Somalia in mid-November.
