Somalia will finally ratify int'l human rights treaty.

Postby nomadicwarlord » Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:04 pm

Leaving the U.S as the only country not to ratify it.

GENEVA (Reuters) - Somalia has announced it plans to ratify a global treaty aimed at protecting children, leaving the United States as the only country outside the pact, UNICEF said on Friday.

Somalia and the United States have long been the last hold-outs to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly exactly 20 years ago.

The most widely ratified international human rights treaty, it declares that those under 18 years old must be protected from violence, exploitation, discrimination and neglect.

"Adherence to and application of the Convention will be of crucial importance for the children of Somalia, who are gravely affected by the ongoing conflict, recurrent natural disasters and chronic poverty," the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in a statement welcoming the move.

In 2002, Somalia's previous transitional government signed the Convention, which the United States also signed under President Bill Clinton in 1995, but neither has ratified it.

UNICEF said Somalia's transitional government had told it the "Somali cabinet of ministers has agreed in principle to ratify the Convention on the rights of the Child".

UNICEF spokeswoman Veronique Taveau told a news briefing in Geneva: "The United States has indicated that a very important review process is going on at the moment in order to arrive as quickly as possible at a ratification".

Mark Kornblau, a spokesman for the U.S. mission to the United Nations in New York, said on Thursday the administration of President Barack Obama was "committed to undertaking a thorough and thoughtful review of the Convention of the Rights of the Child".

Now Al-Shabaab needs to adhere to this treaty and stop brainwashing kids and recruit them for warfare.

This raises question on the validity of treaties.
if a so called government controlling a couple of suburbs can sign a binding document.

Now, who wouldn't support this cause.

whatever the shariah advocates for then that's where my position is.

so do you believe that shariah advocates for the exploitation of kids? is that whyyou think we need the useless taghut UN to tell us what to do?

I don't think it does. it is just the fact that you have rendered this treaty as useless even though it calls for the protection of children rights. What does the Sharia Law have to do with this? Somalia is a member of the U.N so it obligatory for it to take part in UN proceedings.

masha'allah, then the shariah is sufficient for somalia.
it is just the fact that you have rendered this treaty as useless even though it calls for the protection of children rights.
the UN is a useless taghut; hence it follows that anything that comes from the UN is naturally useless.
What does the Sharia Law have to do with this?
it has everything to do with it. like who's our ilaah, sovereign, and lawgiver (allah swt or the taghut UN). what's our source for what's halal and what's haram (islam or the UN). etc.
Somalia is a member of the U.N so it obligatory for it to take part in UN proceedings.
somalia, other than the two block controlled by the tfg (due to the protection of the fufus), isn't a member of the UN. is sland a member of the UN? what about the vast areas controlled by the islamists? or the sufis? etc. and what's obligatory upon a muslim or his land can only come from the one and only creator, not some fake god like the useless UN.

Somali star- with those comments, you qualify for residence in planet Mars. Somalia as a member of the UN has benefited immensely from the UN. The General Assembly and the Security Council will be forever entangled in politics but there are other bodies of the UN that are vital in development. It is the UN that is feeding your people not Al-Shabaab. Just remember that.
