Reports say that a man who dressed as a woman managed to pass through security checkpoints and enter the hallways of the hotel where he detonated himself as the ceremony was taking place

3 Somali Cabinet ministers die in bomb blast

MOGADISHU, Somalia — A police spokesman says three Somali Cabinet ministers are among nine people killed in a bombing that ripped through a university graduation ceremony.

The spokesman, Col. Abdilahi Hassan Barise, says the ministers for education, higher education and health were among those killed in the blast.

The officials were attending a graduation ceremony for medical, computer science and engineering students at a hotel in Mogadishu.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — An AP reporter in Somalia says a bomb has exploded at a university graduation ceremony, killing five people and wounding several more.

The reporter says several government ministers were attending the ceremony when the bomb went off. It wasn't immediately clear if any of the ministers had been harmed in the attack.

No officials were immediately available for comment. The death toll of five was based on a count from the AP reporter.

Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan Addow and Health Minister Qamar Aden died instantly. Education Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Waayel died of his wounds shortly after the blast, AFP quoted a senior government official as saying.

Sports Minister Suleyman Olad Roble was injured, the official added.

We really need a sports minister on the payroll? And is it really necessary to have both a Higher Education Minister and an Education Minister?
