Nomad,
Would u be more explicit when u imply the Imam being from Makhir?
His lineage was Makhiri, whether he was Arab, Afar or Somali.

These are the theories which make sense in order of plausibility:

He was Arab Warsangeli.
He was Nux Cumar Afar.
He was Somali Warsangeli, a direct descendant of Garaad Dhidiin.

It doesn't matter if his wife married a Marehan, it's a Somali cultural practice but it isn't something you have to do. That isn't evidence of anything.

The fact that you ead AMharic doesnt make you very objective talking about this subject.
Its like reading a Nook written about Prophet Moahmed written by an English-man.
Talxenugus,

why do assume that the light of Islam can not reach an Englishman?
The Imam was a vassal of Abyssinia and he nearly annihilated them, I think they can know who he was!

I think you didnt getr what I meant. Now I think the people that his army was composed of were mainly Somali tribes. Wouldn't you think they would know who he was, I ahve also stated above that he clearly had the greatest social lihnks with them. The next thing I pointed out to you was that it is rather biased to ask to wolf about the history of the sheep.
This man fought Ethiopa and the fanmous story is still known up unitll today. The story that they werte fought so fiercly by Ahmed GUrey that the Ethiopeans didn't have time to cook thei meat and so ate it RAW. And this little cuisine habit is still alive in Ethiopia( COrrect me if I am wrong).
I didn't say anything about a English-man not being able to be a muslim or ISlam not reaching him. For example would you rather hear the historu of Mahmed from and English-man or from an Arab Scholars from the 3rd century??

Thank u

Nomad, can u advise some books/documents(internet sites) about Makhir or Warsangali
I am rather interested in serious, if possible schlarly books/documents, not drum beating qabiyalist propaganda!

To my shame I realize I do not know much about the Warsangali or Makhir!
Is it in that part that lo'jir or Gurgures live? R these groups outcasts in that region?

Thnk u

Bareento I think you need to stop lying. The only talk of "Balaw" I have ever seen in connection with Imam Ahmed was in the last couple months when an Ethiopian blog which everyone was using had a wrong interpretation of an excerpt in the Futah Al Habesha.

As for "The Nomad"...you would be wise to ignore him Talxe. His only aim is to prevent the usage of the term "Somali". Misuing the Warsangeli Darod Somali name as not having an ethnic identity supports his objective of denying Imam Ahmed his Somalines even if the Imam was Warsangeli.

As for Imam Ahmed...all his generals were Somali, his army was overwhelming Somali, his empire and after him was ruled by Somalis and even his wife was married by his Marehan Somali nephew. This we know for sure. How hard is to deduce what the Imam's ethnicity is then even if we do not have (as of yet) any text from that time actually writing his ethnicity?

Simple minded is an understatement.

Talxenugus,

I am not claiming the Imam, for me it doesnt matter wheather he was Somali, Afar or Arab.....

I just wanted to point out wat the abyssinans thought of his lineage!
But I am unconfortable with you discarding this source as biased right from the beginning!
We all know the ethnic composition of the 16TH century is different from todays.....

Wat did the Abyssinians gain by saying he is not Somali? i stated that the book was written before the present Ethio/Somali rivalry

Dhahar.com is more than adequate for a detailed history, abtirsi.com for general genealogy and the Wikipedia article on Maakhir (I contributed most of the information) are decent starting points.

I wouldn't recommend a lot of the books which reference Warsangeli. They're extremely biased and the opinions of colonial authors aren't at all reliable.

Good luck  BTW, a lot of the population estimates you'll come across are skewed, the current Warsangeli population in Somalia is roughly 900,000, worldwide it's over a million.

I have yet to hear a convincing argument from any clan or tribe in East Africa that claims him as one of their own.

It's possible he was a member of a tribe that today no longer exists.

I heard it was because they did not want the smoke from the fire to be seen and they resorted to sun drying their meat and ate it raw.

but again i could be wrong please correct me if i am.

The only two clan that claim Ahmed Gurey are Gudabuursi and Mareehan.

But then again what difference will it make?

Is not like Hawiye will stop mooryaanimo.

Nor will darood stop dabadhilifing for for tigre Ismaeil.
