Since nobody did census since Said Barre, I don't know why we think that Somali population is just 10 million.

Eritrea alone is 5 million
Côte d'Ivoire has 21 million (ever heard of this country?)
Phucken Yemen has 23 million (what?)
Tiny Nepal has 29 million
and Peru has 30 million

Comeone man ! Somalia can't be less then 25-30 million.

Greenland is bigger than Europe but its only 20 thousand in population. Bangladesh is the size of Gedo-Bari-Sanaag and its 150 million in population.

Somalia is 10 million stable but probably 8 or 9 million these days because of heavy migration to Kenyan refugee camps recently.

It's not surprising at all. When you factor in the infant mortality rate, growth rate then we are pretty much stagnant . average Somali family is about 8kids/family , a third of those die before age of 10. Also take into the account that most Somali men don't get to live that long and either die from disease, hunger or in wars. Currently our growth rate is pretty impressive at 3% a year, so if only there was an actual government that could provide better health care for new born so that they don't die at such early stage of their lives then we could see significant growth in population. Gues what the world census estimates Somalia' population to only slightly increase to 15-20 million by 2025. Gues what Ethiopia' population would be? 140 million! How bright is the future damn eh.

If Somalia with growth rate of 3%, 8/family, with low infant mortality rate then You'd see Somalia hitting at least 70 million mark by 2030.

Paidmonk stop being a totalist, is isn't the a dumb argument. Yemen and Somalia are mirror to each other, they share borders, culture, religion, they have tribes, wars, they eat khat. If Yemen is 23 million, Somalia is 23 million.

Firstly they don't share a border, they're separated by a SEA! Secondly they don't share the same culture, never have, and I don't know why that would relate to population. Thirdly, Yemen hasn't seen nearly as much violence as Somalia. Yemen was two countries and two vastly different societies before the 1990s.

a border doesn't have to be a land, idiot, it can be ocean, river, lake, anything. as long as the two countries are close to each other.
Somalia and Yemen share the same culture, they both eat Khat and drink tea, which is part of a culture, not to mention, tribal system, camels etc. learn history man.
Yemen hasn't seen as much voilence? they have been fighting North and South Yemen for years, and their government was always week and the tribes are armed and control their terrotories. even Now there is a new rebel groub that are fighting with the government. not to mention the bombings that happen there once awhile.

I can assure you, if we Somalis remain abroad in the next 50 yrs, we will have more Somalis living here than in Somalia itself. Right now over 1 million of us live outside of Somalia.

I highly doubt yemen or ethiopias mortality rates are in the single digits.

And apart from qat and the macawis, what other cultural similarities do we have? You can find tribes in pakistan, and I have yet to see a dance of ours even influenced by yemen.

Below I will estimate Somalis living in Somaliweyn, not including Nairobi, Addis Ababa, or elsewhere that isn't part of Greater Somalia.

Strictly speaking, below are Somalis from Somalia proper, Ogadenia, Somalian Djibouti and NFD.

Somaliweyn is roughly 18 million - 9 million in Somalia, 5 million in Ethiopia, 1 million in Kenya, and 500,000 in Djibouti. That brings us to a total of 18 million Somalis in Somaliweyn.

If you say 25 million, where are the other 7 million hiding? London Cafes?
