newstimes Kigali — A Somali national who was arrested recently at Kigali International Airport in Kanombe for allegedly bribing officials so that he stays in the country has been taken to court.
According to Augustin Nkusi, prosecution spokesperson, Hassan Abdi Mohammed tried to bribe Airport officials after they discovered he didn't have genuine travel documents.
"When officials said they were going to deport him back to Somalia, Mohammed protested and wanted to use money to stay in Rwanda," Nkusi said by phone yesterday.
Mohammed was offering about $300 but the person he was bribing tipped off security officials at the airport who later arrested him.
Nkusi said the Somali had already been arraigned before court.
"In court, Mohammed pleaded guilty to the crime and the date for ruling was set for January 23 next year," Nkusi added.
His arrest comes barely a month after four other Somalis were arrested while trying to illegally cross into Rwanda from Uganda at Gatuna border post.
The quartet has since been deported.
