Kenya trying to steal the economic future of Somalia.

Postby Voltage » Tue Jan 12, 2010 2:44 am

To the dismay of many residents and tourists, the Kenyan government is planning to build the biggest port in East Africa here. It is an ambitious, multibillion-dollar project that could transform trade in this region and knit together Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Congo and southern Sudan as never before.

Pipelines, rail lines, highways, airports, an oil refinery and extra-deep berths for 21st-century supertankers are all in the blueprints, though it is hard to imagine such infrastructure rising up along this long-neglected stretch of the Kenyan coast, dotted by crumbling ruins and impenetrable mangrove swamps.

The Chinese government, one of the most aggressive investors in Africa, is backing the project and has already begun feasibility studies.

“This is real,” said Chirau Ali Mwakwere, Kenya’s transport minister. “We’ve made tremendous strides toward the realization of what you might call a dream.”

Now where is Lamu?

Near the border with Somalia, impacting the zone of the Kismaayo-Mogadishu port zones.

This is what happens when you spend 20 years squabbling over trivial matters, forgetting that yes, indeed, you are not alone in this world and competition is fierce.

If Kenya does build this port, no way in hell they'll let go of NFD which rests right next door to this lucrative new port.

Yeah, and they seem to be wasting no time neither, China having already promised them an extended a Kshs 540 million grant to support various projects in the country too. Thats the thing about the Chinese. Development for resources. Investment for returns. I doubt this'll be a wake up call, but if anything now more than ever our country needs to get its act together. :|

We are a brain dead Nation! Things are beyond qabil in Somalia.

The Somali people need to reclaim their Nation, because self interest bastards will not.

Did we forget Ethiopia is building a Dam! :|

ps: How are we suppose to competet with our neigbhors when some of our people are soooooo small minded that they rather compete with Reer hebel rather than Nations. For example, when the Prime Minister of Somalia came to Galkayo to sign an accord with a State within Somalia, and sign an agreement to built a National navy base in Puntland, the only part of Somalia the TFG can actually work to improve the Nation from within it was Somali MPs and Ministers who represent Somali oo dhan and said hell no Reer Hebel land should not be a base for the Somali navy, when it is where 80% of Somali piracy takes place and 1/3 of the Somali coast line resites. Rather than welcoming it and calling it a mile stone for Somalia some ministers went far enough because of hate of their own people to not only suggest but actually run down to another country Djoubti and said the Somali navy will be based here?

We have a toy President and 550 retarded MPs and than we have Al Shabaab iyo Somalidiid. Stop dreaming kids Somalia is fucked for the next 100 years.

"Men are moved by two levers only, fear and self-interest" Napoleon Bonaparte.

Somalia has been idle for too long so it is only a matter of time that it's strategic location becomes insignificant.

I wouldn't say steal. I'd say they are using common sense

That port will be very advantageous because Somali ports obviously will not have the same capacity and infrastructure this new port will feature.

It is another one of those things where Somalis shouldn't cry over their neighbours advancing when you have been fighting over primitive issues for 20 years and now you're fighting over your religion of all things.

Fix your sh!t marka hore and then you can speak.

PS: but how can one co-habitet with people who look like danyeer? Prosperousness goes along with Cadaans-because cadaans are good to look at. These adoons scare me! :?

In addition to the chinese ambitions, this project was made possible by somalis who are investing heavily in Kenya. Kenya now enjoys better economy than most countries in Africa. It is a country hosting another country. Somalis abondoned their country morally, spiritually, economically. PS: If you are pained by the facts about somalia, qabiilka ka hara.

Geodisc,

Somalia's fate is no longer in Somali hands. Kenya's move to develop Lamu makes economic sense and does not steal from an economic future that Somalia never had.
