Why would you pick Spanish?
You won't even be considered unless you're at native level, the last translating firm I was working for had their Spanish translators calling in practically begging for work everyday, and they seldom got it. If they did they were earning a pittance.
A lot of the higher level translating jobs (federal departments, intel agencies, etc) are full of people that speak both English and Spanish as a mother tongue and have have extensive training/certifications in translation, you won't be able to compete with them.
If the TS's ambition is to eventually become a secondary school teacher, go learn Spanish. If you're looking for a language to make a translating career out of or maybe aid you in the business world, there are at least 5 I can name which are better.
