Abrahah prepared to enter Makkah, but his special elephant, Mahmud, which was in the forefront, knelt down. It was beaten with iron bars, goaded, even scarified, but it would not get up. When they made it face south, north, or east, it would immediately start off, but as soon as they directed it towards Makkah, it knelt down. In the meantime swarms of birds appeared carrying stones in their beaks and claws and showered these on the troops. Whoever was hit would start disintegrating. According to Muhammad bin Ishaq and Ikrimah, this was smallpox, which was seen in Arabia for the first time in that year. Ibn Abbas says that whoever was struck by a pebble, would start scratching his body resulting in breaking of the skin and falling off of the flesh. In another tradition Ibn Abbas says that the flesh and blood flowed like water and bones in the body became visible. The same thing happened with Abrahah too. His flesh fell in pieces and there arose bores on his body emitting pus and blood. In confusion they withdrew and fled towards Yaman. Nufail bin Habib, whom they had brought as guide from the country of Khatham, was searched out and asked to guide them back to Yaman, but he refused and said:

"Now where can one flee when God pursues?

The split nose (Abrahah) is the conquered; not the conqueror."

As they withdrew they were continually falling by the bay and dying. Ata bin Yasar says that all the troops did not perish at the spot; some perished there and others perished by the wayside as they withdrew. Abrahah died in the country of Khath'am

professor samatar is writting about documented history not on islamic theology. the two things are different one is based on history and rational thinking the other is based on personal belief and blind faith. so there is really no reason why you people should condemn professor samatar's scholarly work just because contradicts your beielf!
There is nothing rational about what he wrote in the part I quoted..because even if you try to disregards the diin(which lit. makes you a kaafir)..
you cant invent and say such and such disease afflicted that army..when eye historical facts are different.

And what makes you think that arabs of that era and muslims afterwards did not documet history?? mise you only believe on Cadaan's his-story?
so are you telling me the abrah's army was wiped out by an army of birds armed with hot clay stones.
which sounds more plausible smallpox or army of birds. im sorry mate you can belief what want but you can present your belief as an infallible truth.
Yes that is exactly what we are saying, and it is the infalliable truth, and if u disagree with me, u are gaal, and murtads only deserve one thing

Salman Rushdie is an alumni of a university whose motto is "Don't be the leaf that doesn't know it is part of a tree" and yet he has done everything to ruin not the reputation of his university but that of his country too. His entire literature is based on insulting and dissing Islam. He is cut from the same cloth as Ayan Hirsi

Allah has created the heaven, the earth, and everything between it. He created mankind from scratch; he created the whole Universe that we see today. How hard could it be for him to give birds fire and throw at people? Do some people even hear their arguments out loud?

ilaahay created you and placed you in you moms womb, took you out of there, made you grown up person. Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror? How perfect the eyes, the nose the ears were? How everything is fitting to its place, when you don’t know what its place suppose to be, but for some reason you cannot imagine your eyes at the back of your head, or you nose in your neck? Your arms as your legs and visa versa. Have you ever looked at how the world seems so perfectly fitting? Everything in its place, the trees, the sea, the mountains, everything, and nothing seems to be out of place. Is that kind of creation just happens because of random energy crap. Or God's powers that made humans fit this earth so perfectly.

Have you ever thought about how a child is born? Really look deep in your hearts, how a human is placed inside another human, after sometime is taken out and lives this world as she/he wishes. Have you ever thought about all the miracles that happened in this world? Now and before, all the nations that was destroyed. aawaye qawmu luudh, thamud and fircown. Allah destroys them when they didn’t worship him. How did he destroy them? By disasters, Can a disaster create itself without Allah giving orders?

Now! Think about it, the same God that did all that, are you telling me he cannot create birds, give them fire to throw at asxaabul fiil? mithqaala daratin birds, just birds. Allah has created everything else. Seven heavens and seven hells how hard is it for him to birds to use as his own army?

Can’t the same God who created nations after nations, endless lands, endless seas and wilderness create birds in flocks?

Are you telling me you believe all that above but not birds in flocks? How ignorant must some people be!!

GOD has the power do what ever he wishes. he can make jesus walking on water, raise the dead, allow prophet muhammad to ascend to heaven and make moses part the sea. but my point is that our believes in these miracles is one that soley based on a article of faith in the supernatural and not on documented history or science.

No body appointed themselves righteous.

But your views are in line with apostasy, and apostates only deserve one thing

Every word of the Quran is the absolute truth there is not a discussion about that, and you should believe the absolute truth. If you don’t think it’s the absolute truth your kidding your self and you should not believe it.

where are paddington bear, twisted logic and the like to defend him?
My dear takfiiri friend, I am not sure about Twisted Logic but I do not condemn a man by what I understood from his words but rather by clear evidence of his waywardness. This professor is questioning a clear sura in the quran. He gets no defence from me (and YET, I still would not hurry into the foolish act of calling him a kaffir).
