A contrast of nationalism in today's Somalis and yesteryear

Postby Warsame101 » Sat Jan 23, 2010 4:32 pm

Former Somali servicemen and civilians were called to volunteer for duty to defend their country as the Russian-Cuban-Ethiopian-South Yemeni coalition were nearing the Somali border in 1978.

mashallah. nationalism is death in somalia today. no one is fighting for nationalism - there are either those who're fighting in the path of allah or those who're fighting in the path of jahiliyyah without the ambiguity of nationalism.

"Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish" [Qur'an 17:81]

unfortunately these same enthusiast volunteers were exploited by their clans to finally bring down what they fought for in the past. i would have loved if we were little level headed about everything and not just worked off of emotions.

nice video. who recorded and hid all these videos for so long.

Masha allah

The Somali nation has invested heavily in the 77 war. Many Somali nomads have sold their livestock to finance the war, and many city dwellers registered to fight. Unfortunately, the world conspired against us and the leadership of Somalia made fundamental errors.

All in all, it is a legendary episode in Somalia's history.

The funny thing is it came at an appropriate time, just when the reporter said "and what about the rest of them" and they all fell in like like a movie script. :D  :som:

The biggest difference between Somali and other people is, fighting for you're country for your people and religion is not a sacrifice, it part of who we are. I can't believe for 20 year we wasted that believe in capturing eachother's towns and what not. I await the day we get back to such a state of mind.

Cinque could be my mom who knows. When the Russians were expelled, there is a well known story in Muqdisho how my mom went to one of the military barracks had some officers drive her on top of a jeep with huge quantities of banana and was throwing at the disgraced Russians unpeeled. She was on Radio Mogadishu singing the song she made up while she bombed the disgraced Russians with the Banana
