It is not about the political leadership, it is about the cultural system of the people. Malaysia, Singapore, Somalia, etc all these countries were ruled by benevolent dictatorships at the same time and each had notable achievements particularly Somalia where they still hold a record in literacy gains but the progress we have achieved since are representative of the general culture of the people.

A cultural evolution has to take in Africa especially to prepare them for modern delivery. This is the foundation and without this foundation all effort will eventually become dissolved and regression will take place.

Who in their right mind puts Somalia in the same breath as Singapore and Malaysia in anything? least of all in developments and economic growth? This kid is seriously messed up in the head. In the 1980s, Somalia was dependent on UN hand-outs, hundreds of thousands of its people were displaced and Africa's most brutal and vicious massacre was being unleashed by a regime that knew that its time was up. By this time, Malaysia and Singapore were making real and tangible strides in terms of economic, technological and social growth.

These childish reconstruction of history into some sort of a disneyland of the mind is quite annoying and irritating.

Thanks. I'll take the first and third books. The second looks like a philisophical book, no thanks. I've seen plenty of somalis go mad once they've entered the world of nietzche.

Well, you can't study the history of economic thought without focusing on the history of the ideas and personalities that shaped it. But it is really, your call.

  @your Nietzsche comment.

Ganjaweed,

I recommend reading some of Jeffery Sach's works like "The End of Poverty":

For an interesting perspective on why how societies rise, fall and the factors behind each swing:

A good book on why development occurred differently on different continents and how geography, location, environment, weather all influenced the development of societies:

Old Siad was a patriot of the first caliber, god rest his soul. He made mistakes and some of his policies did not turn out so good but he did it with the interest of Somalia in mind and not his own interest in mind. Even his enemies fiercest enemies have never tried to blemish this part of his record.

But let's not corrupt the discussion. You are right about Singapore like, it is a corporation.
Voltage,

Are you denying his family did not prosper from the regime ?

Abdiwahab,

Every post You make discussing Governance and Nation Building I take it like say ms Nalia makes a post about that or something. I mean You were and still are Pro Anarchists today, so I can't help but heartily laugh When You talk like that

Murax,

Anarchist ? I am for state order. Unlike you, I did not support the former government which sowed the seeds of Somalia's collapse, watered the seeds with the blood of innocents and then act all surprised with the seeds became massive thorny bushes
