Should be banned inshallah. Conservatives, current favourites to win the election want to ban it, one of their first pledges. Sayeeda warsa, a muslim lady who is a baroness and conservative minister met with somali women and wants to ban it. Read her article here:

pretty good read, be sure to read the comments. Cadaan folks are anti govt legislation and involvement, even though they dont chew, the speak out in favour of khat, read the comments lol.

At the same time Khat is a huge tax revenue for the govt, people underestimate it. It comes in by the tonnes a day and is imported through foreign produce (fruit and veg), which has a high tax rate compared to domestic produce. No such thing as seasonal with khat, shit is guaranteed to come in at least 5 times a week.

The government should def commision a deep study into the potential of banning khat, also potential implications, as many young somalis could fall into harder drugs.

Many scientist are against banning khat though, they say its a minor drug, not even comparable to cannabis.

Khat is destroying the Somali community, and the average Somali familly ban it in europe I say . having said is their any fertile land in Somali/Somaliland ?.So Somalis can grow their own khat instead of wasting millions and making other nations richer. this is a big problem we need to tackle atleast this shiid should have helped our economy boom instead it's killing it.

We send remittance back home, some spend it on khat, khat grows in kenya and ethopia, they profit from our remittance. Might as well send the money direct to kenya and ethopian farmers.

My point exactly , I am sure there are fertile lands in Somalia/Somaliland Somalis they need to grow their own khat it's good for the economy of the country In the westeren world alcohol just like khat can destroy famillies but atleast their goverments makes millions if not billions out of alcohol.

Though i don't CHEW KAT, i am TOTALLY against BANNING it. I REGARD kat as VEGETABLE and CHEWRS as VEGETARIANS.
