The crecent symbol has nothing to do specifically with Islam.
In 1453 when constantinople fell to the Ottomans, some of the standards and flags recovered from the Byzantines had the crecent. The turks liked them and adopted the crecent ..

the turks never used the crecent symbol before 1453, and no other muslim power used the crecent symbol before that.

after 400 years of use by the Ottomans the Crecent symbol became assocaited with Islam by both the west and the muslims as well..

You know why the cresent is the symbol of Islam, it's not just the Ottamans. the Cresent moon stands for the holy month of Ramadan, when the cresent moon is spotted across the world. Also Islamic calendar is a lunar calenadar (based on the moon sightings), so that is why it's important in Islam.

We have these paranoid conspiracy theories in every religion. We have some Muslims that say Nike creates Allah logo on their shoes and that Coca-Cola when turned upside down spells, "No Allah, No Macca" in Arabic, or something along those lines.

We shouldn't be taking them any serious. Some of the Right Wing nutcases are arguing that the Missile Defense Logo resembles the Logo of the Iranian Space Agency and then go ahead to argue that Obama is trying to "Islamize" America. Hilarious stuff.

Gurey25 is right, historically, the Crescent symbol hasn't been used by Muslims before the Ottomans, and they themselves borrowed it from the defeated Byzantine Empire.
