It seems that Sheikh Sharif is no joke and his government is finally on a roll and may succeed.
But this time the internationally recognized TFG may be in with a fighting chance. Washington has promised air support and teams of Special Forces.
It's not clear in what strength this support will be provided. But it is likely to be the most overt demonstration of U.S. military backing since the ill-fated Operation Restore Hope of 1992, a U.N. humanitarian mission to help the starving population.

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A senior US military officer voiced support Tuesday for efforts by the Somali government to take control of the capital Mogadishu, saying it could help ease the country's chronic instability.
Mogadishu and other parts of central and southern Somalia under insurgent control have been bracing for a major offensive by the government and the African Union peacekeeping mission, known as AMISOM.

Reports continue to come in since the weekend that US surveillance drones have been flying overhead in the Somali capital city of Mogadishu, providing intelligence to the self-proclaimed government that soon hopes to launch a major attack across the city.
