C'mon don't be so lofty and stuff, nobody is interested in your specific DNA, over 300,000 folks already took it

What is J1? Arab

Well it's not Horn African, it is believed to be a Semetic marker / Middle Eastern marker....Jews and other semetic speakers carry it too

While this is typical for Somalis:

Man you've just waisted your money. Out of the two tests I would prefer the Mitochondrial DNA (maternal) test. At least with that one you don't know what you'll get.

There are Somalis who have Indian (10%), Bantu (3%), Eastern European (1%), East Asian (0,5%) lineages

Two Somalis tested positive on R1a1*(xR1a1b) (which is of Eastern European origin) and one Somali got H (which is central Asian/South East Asian) out of a pool of 200

Dawwa,

I am going to order the Y testing one. It should be interesting to find out.

My only fear is to find Arab heritage. It would shatter me :(

Dawwa,

I would happily accept those as it would mean I am a son of the soil not an immigrant.

If you ask me, the idea of using DNA for lineage is quite subjective, and other scientist have atested to this.

From my understanding, it works like this, in mammilian cells, mitochondrial dna is gotten only from the mother and not the father. Using a monkey (chimpanzee to be precise) as the basis of standard, point mutations, which are very common in MT DNA, are used as branching points between different groups.

Conserved sequences (squences that code for important things, and do not change very often) such as those from the enzyme Cytochrome c oxidase, and others are used to compare similarities and differences of differen't ethnic groups.

Did a test from a similar company. I'm more "Arab" than Somali. Considering the link my "clan" have to Arabia it wasn't a surprise.
