Is the dream now impossible, should that flag and the star be changed to reflect the new reality. Today not even the two united former somalilands are one, not to mention Somaligalbeed or the NFD and Jabouti is its own country. That flag does not unite Somalis it is a disuniting factor controrary to the aims of the founding fathers. Not to mention it sits uncomfortably with our neighbors with its expansionist undertones. Now with the republic dead why should we be stuck in the past, a new republic should be born without being held hostage to the old negative symbols and thinking.

General-SNM is saying that the flag was hijacked to further selfish interest of specific groups and individuals and thinks that it no longer serves its intended purpose. He then used Somaliland and Puntland flag as an example and asked Hawiye to also make their own flag. Obviously, I disagree with this. But to say that he doesn't take Hawiye as "an equal" is simply hilarious . Thankfully, Hawiye doesn't suffer from the Schizotypal personality disorders that afflict certain sections of the Somali population and nor do we search for other peoples' approval. So, I don't know what this "equality" argument means.

I also don't think they claim that Somalia=Darod. They attribute their suffering to Darod which they believed misused the flag to further clan interests. This is different than saying that Somalia=Darod which is not historically or socially true. I don't know where you got this idea from.

Well like that flag or dont like that flag, it is the only flag recognized around the globe as the representative flag of the Somali people from Raskambooni to Seylac, so people should get comfortable with it.

sxb you got it wrong since we dont see darrod as a threat but as a pest..if you ever go to hargeysa, they associate somalia=mogadisho=hawiyeh...in hargeysa, when you talk about somalia in marfish, hawiyeh are seen as the power broker while darood are seen as a state that its held within that power in mogadisho(hawiyeh).... we defeated darood in the 1990s and hawiyeh massacred them..in all honesty, isaaq dont see darood as a threat whatsoever otherwise we wouldnt be located 17km from their capital (garowe) with our hand on their cousin throat in las canood...
