I read in another thread, in a post by Murux that reading the Bible, Torah, or any other religions text is haraam. With respect to Murux he did mention a hadith but did not really go into at all.

So is reading other religions texts haraam in Islam?
I don't believe so, Umar (ra) use to read the toroah
.
Yeah cumar once read the bible and the prophte came behind him rebuked him.
Hence the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) got angry when he saw a book in the hand of ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had taken from some of the People of the Book. The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Are you in doubt of it, O son of al-Khattaab? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I have brought to you that which is white and pure, and by the One in Whose hand is my soul, if Moosa (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) were alive, he could do nothing but follow me.” Narrated by Imam Ahmad (14736); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in al-Irwa’ (6/34).

I don't have a personal opinion. I'm sure there's at a least a hadith, Islamic ruling or fatwa on whether it's haram or halal. On matters of haram or halal, I don't ask people about their personal opinions. I abide by the hadith, Islamic ruling or fatwa.

this is what i read about hindums and one of biggest hindu gods
SHIVA
Shiva is seen as the Supreme God. In the Smarta tradition, he is regarded as one of the five primary forms of God.[3]

Followers of Hinduism who focus their worship upon Shiva are called Shaivites or Shaivas (Sanskrit Śaiva).[4] Shaivism, along with Vaiṣṇava traditions that focus on Vishnu and Śākta traditions that focus on the goddess Shakti are three of the most influential denominations in Hinduism.[3]

Shiva is usually worshipped in the abstract form of Shiva linga. In images, he is generally represented as immersed in deep meditation or dancing the Tandava upon Maya, the demon of ignorance in his manifestation of Nataraja, the lord of the dance.

Apparently Hindus also believe in the existance of one God, they just pray to the different qualities. Also in terms of idols, some Christians always carry around the crucifix and a statue or painting of Maryama. So they're not that different.

Well they are different, for example we are allowed to eat the meat slaughtered by ahlul kitaab ( christians and jews) but we are not allowed to eat the meat of idol worshippers, we are also allowed to marry the women of ahlul kitaab but it is forbidden to marry the women of mushrikeen
