Boon?

Postby muslim-man » Sun Apr 04, 2010 8:56 am

Does anyone even know how this phrase was conjured up? 'Cause anyone with an ounce of common sense will see the foolishness in using it against others. The word Boon was created at a time of great famine & war to distinguish one group of clan members from another, because they refused to take part in an unjust war, or so the story goes. Its a fictitious name that shouldn't even cause anyone the slightest ill-feeling. Personally, whenever I hear names like Boon, Tumaal, Midgaan, I laugh at the level of ignorance that's still widespread in our society. Perfectly sane, decent, Muslim Somalis being labeled demeaning names just because someone didn't want to share their meager posessions with them or didn't approve of their living style. In some instances, brothers being made out-casts simply because they either took-up the wrong trade e.g. Tumaal=blacksmithing or ate something that was a taboo.

To see young, supposedly college educated folks repeatedly say it, now that's just a sad thing. Isku noqda and make your parents proud by puting to good use the education they've always wanted you to have. Same thing with calling folks Bantu. Bantus are decent folk and no one should take any offense to being called one.

Xamud,

From what I heard growing up, midgaan came about because members of the same clan ate something that they shouldn't have and boon came about because members of another clan refused to provide logistical support for their brothers in a war time. I honestly don't know, but its all sheer ignorance and something our society can do without. Its so retarded anyway you look at it. "I'm more nasab...", "No, I'm more nasab and you are not." Boohoo! Who gives a fuck? You're all the product of ignorance and poverty, get used to it. As Somalis, we shouldn't even be ones to talk, we are a failure.

What's with the contradiction? This is what you wrote yesterday about them:
They all lie & cook-up all sorts of stories to keep their jobs.

Arabman,

You've become predictable, sxb. If you'll re-check what I wrote yesterday, you'll see that I was talking about non-Bantus who prey on Bantus, lie, cook up stories, sensationalize the suffering of Bantus all in an attempt to get public sympathy in the U.S. and funds for their refugee agencies. I was referring to heads of these refugee resettlement agencies, who only care about their bottom-dollar and rarely about the Bantus themselves. I know better than to make sweeping generalization against Bantus as a whole. Does that answer your question?

My only curriousity towards the word Boon as i encountered it here in the last 14days lead me to a website setup by and for Madhibaan.

http://www.madhibaan.org/faq/faq-history.htm

There is some valid points raised on the site, that hiding their heritage has lead to them being discriminated against and remaining outcasts. They should be proud of what they are and celibrate it with confidence. The more we pretend they do not exist or they accept being inferior then the stigma will be perpetuated.

I love the way certain idiots repeat over and over again the word boon boon boon, hoping imaginary dirt will stick because in their mind they think, If you repeat a lie long enough that it will become truth, but deep down they know fully well marexaan ceeb malaha, infact they are called Gobta darood

Most or all of those who work for their refugee agencies do just the same. You sound like: "Tuug intaadan tuug dhihin ayuu tuug ku dhahaa."
