While Left and Right designations vary from country to country, I can tell you the following about the leading parties in Briton.
Lib Dem - authentic Left party. Liberal on both social and fiscal issues. While they're uncompromising on social issues they're somewhat more pragmatic towards fiscal issues. In that regard, they're not full-blown "socialists," don't expect Briton to become a socialist country overnight in the Lib Dem win. But their ideal Briton is one that is "more" like Scandinavian countries.
Tories -- authentic Right party (in British context). Conservative on both social and fiscal issues. Their ideal Briton is Thatcher Era 2.0
Labour Party - authentic centrist party and because of that they oscillate between Left and Right on both fiscally and socially.
I'm rooting for Gordon Brown as I think he's the most competent of the three.
