Another option is to strive to be an excellent student and apply for academic scholariship and other financial awards for students with high GPA, and totally avoid taking a loan.

Interest from the bond is still haram right?

There are students who are not excellent and have no choice but take out the loan. As long as you pay off quickly and avoid paying interest then great!
