MOGADISHU, Somalia - The prime minister of Somalia is publicly disputing the president's right to dissolve the U.N.-backed government, further deepening the political turmoil that prevents the administration from effectively fighting al-Qaida linked Islamist insurgents.

Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke insisted he is still the prime minister at a press conference Tuesday despite President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed's announcement a day earlier that he was dissolving the Cabinet.

The Somali constitution says the president may appoint the prime minister but cannot fire him without parliament's approval.

I think every Somali person that becomes President assumes he or she is the law of the land. They act like dictators and for get they are working within the frame work of a democracy. The President doesn't have the power to fire the Prime Minister only a Majority vote can.

Right on Cumar C/rashid and stand with your two feet and reject Shariif Axmed easily sucking you without due process. Stick around until Mujaahidiin take over the country and defend the Somali territorial waters. If you are the Cumar C/Rashid whom I know and went to the same school with, you will not allow illiterate dummies like Shariif Axmed and Axmed Madoobe run the show and easily get rid of you. Omar abdirashid is becoming another warlord, its better for him to take the sack, otherwise, they gonna plant a bomb in his car next time and say he was killed by Al-shabaab. I think puntlanders yelled at him not to accept.

you have to realize once things/someone is politically appointed, then that named entity takes its own living, its subjected to its own rules and regulations. that the president had the initial authority to name the prime minister does not me he still has that same power to depose him.
