Dear Somalis, Media, and Members of the International Community,
My name is Patricia Sharp. Today I write to you in the HOPE that you may help me find my son, Martin Sharp, who has been missing in Somalia for over two years.
In December 2006 my son and a girl, Sherry (who is half-Somali), went to visit Mogadishu. They were there for about 3 days when fighting started again between the Ethiopian army, the TFG, and certain other Somali group(s). Their hotel was bombed out, but they escaped with whatever they had on them at the time and managed to get to the airport. Their tickets and money were lost in the bombing. Unfortunately, my son, Martin, had only enough cash with him to buy a ticket out for Sherry; he had to remain behind. There was cell phone contact between them for a short while, during which time Martin said that since conditions at the airport were so bad, he and another guy (who was in a similar situation) were going to try to make to the other airport. That was the last Sherry heard of him, and subsequently his cell phone went dead. I received these details from Sherry when she got back to London.
I have contacted various relief agencies, like Oxfam and the Red Cross, US and UK embassies, as Martin has both passports, and I have also spoken to the FBI - all to no avail. Additionally, I have trawled through many photos of dead bodies, spoken to Somalis who have visited the country (both those with and without contacts and influence) - again, to no avail.
Martin Sharp is now 21 years old, 6ft 3in (1.92m) in height, and weighs about 190lbs (86kg).
Any information you could provide me about the whereabouts of my son would be so greatly appreciated, and I will forever thank you.
