Expatriots-Hands off Somalia

Postby gobdoon » Wed Sep 08, 2010 3:58 am

It's becoming clear now people causing most of the instablity in Somalia or those so called Somalis who immigrated to the west at the beggining of the civilwar who cowardly choosen to run away when their country and people were most in need some of them when they came to the west carried on fueling the conflict by sending money or raising funds for people back home to buy amunitions to carry on killing eachather, now remember in the day of judgement surely you would be asked of what you done with your wealth I for one never participated money collection except sending money to my family for their daily needs niether did run to Mogadishou to participate so called TFG authority for doing corruption and creating more instablity,so the moral of the argument please if you are not contributing possatively and wholeheartedly to that country stay away from it let the real Somalis who are still in Somalia deal with their problem without interfrence from those who are carrying another country's passport.

I agree, a great example of this is Mr Tarzan and Eng Yarisow. These two men were prominent anti-TFG activist here in London less than 2 years ago. They were against foreign troops in Somalia, they didn’t recognize TFG. They constantly talked about corruption and the lack of governance by TFG. But what are they doing now??

Tarzan = Mayor of Mogadishu

Eng. Yarisow = Minister of Information of TFG

Spot on!

Somalis in the Diaspora have caused havoc and instability, particularly, in the former Somalia Koonfuria. However, when there is a severe brain-drain in the country, where the best educated and most able have left the country, we might need to consider the potential role Somalis in the Diaspora are able to play.

According to the traditional framework, brain-drain may refer to
''Human capital flight, more commonly referred to as "brain drain", is the large-scale emigration of individuals with technical skills or knowledge; it is normally due to conflict, lack of opportunity, political instability, or health risks'' - Wikipedia
In many parts of the Somali peninsula, there appears to be two different processes occurring. One is the traditional form of brain-drain, the other is seldom considered, at least according to formal studies. This is the reverse of brain-drain by Diaspora based Somalis, going back to their countries and adding to the development already taking place there. Admittedly, while many young people strive to leave the Somali peninsula, net loss in emigration patterns are supplemented by returning Somali Diaspora, thought not in quite the same numbers.

In Somaliland, many of the ministers in the Silaanyo administration are from the Diaspora, many hold foreign passports but unlike the former Somalia Koonfuria, there is an acceptance and a recognition of the pivotal role played by the Diaspora. In an inverse of what is occurring in the former Somalia Koonfuria, Somaliland leaders from the Diaspora have personally, almost, all the time finance their trips, add significant amounts of money towards the development of Somaliland - to their detriment. In Somaliland, Diaspora leaders are first and foremost judged on their achievements outside of Somaliland. They do not waltz in there, hoping, to somehow gain some kind of tangible benefit.

Very Interesting videos on returning Somali diaspora:
