In this Somali website, they are showing images of Somalia's wildlife and camels. At least someone tried to show their images even tough it is tough for these defenseless animals nowadays due to the lack of a strong Somali state that can enforce effective conservation policies.

We watch daily and nightly in National Geographic and Discovery channels and here they are in our backyard in the motherland and we are not even making efforts to show any kind of campassion and love to these mgnificant animals. I have a good news for you tough and that is many Somalis are understanding the place these animals have in our ecosystem and the care they need from us. In certain parts of Somalia, traditional elders are taking active role to fight the poachers who kill and eliminate these animals from the face of the earth.

I think due to the lack of Somali state, the diaspora communities should help and start programs/NGOs to fund the conservation of Somalia's wild life in every region of the country. People should share experiences and coordinate efforts.

PS: to my knowledge, some of these animals are extinct. If you hadn't given a thought, we are definitely loosing so much in this endless saga.

Ina adeer I'm all for saving the wildlife but don't you think we have far more pressing issues, like hundreds of thousands of IDPs and dozens dying by the day?

It is all interconnected. How can you save people if you can't save the environment and the wildlife. Believe me I went to Somalia in June and July and there was nearly consensus among the Somali attitudes that storing peace and protecting the environment and wildlife is all interconnected. If we only focus on people and forget about the environment and the wildlife, the question is what are the people going to live on? Remember, Somalia's economy is based on lifestock and the agriculture. In order to have a corn, macasaro, fruits, vegetables, maize, meat, and milk we need good rains and to get good rainy system, we have to protect the environment and the wildlife.

We are loosing people daily because war of aggression has been imposed on us by foreign countries who put their national interest at the continuation of the Somali civil war. I mean ask yourself how the peace and stability in South/Central Somalia is a threat to the peace of the so-called international community? I think we need to look at deep down the issues that we are facing and who is imposing his/her will on us. The civil war in Somalia is run by people that many Somalis don't realize!

LOL@ The Somali wild ass! I didn't know Hyenas were called dhurwaa. I always used to hear hooyo and aabo telling me tales about a dhurwaa, all I knew was that it could eat people, and other animals. Whoever took those pictures is BOLD! Now I can put a name to the face! Btw, where are the African lions and tigers?

As for our wildlife, bro we've had far more wild animals than the ones listed, hope they didn't all die. It would be nice to have a peaceful country with beautiful wildlife scenery.

The wild ass is almost extinct due to the draughts, killings, and also a theft made by some Jewish folks who came under NGOs. They claimed this wild ass accompanied Mossas (prophet Muusa (peace be upon him)) and King Solomon (prophet Sulaiman (peace be upon him)). This what Somalis in backhome told me when I got there last year. You can find it in the western zoos tough. Hopefully, when Somalia civil war is concluded, we can re-introduce them.

All jokes aside, what do you think the population of white asses, African lions, tigers, etc...? Do we even have them?

I believe there are few left in Garacad area, Mudug region and there are also some in Eriteria and the Afar region of Ethiopia.

I see our wild life is slowly dying off. I went to ceerigaabo four years ago, people had cheeteh's as pets, as well as serval cats. I'm not suprised their aren't many left in the wild today.

It was dying off but Alxamdulillaah our people's attiutudes are changing and I see hope for these magnificant animals. People do now understand the importance of animals and the environment. I saw the Gazelles in very abandunce in the Karamaan palateau and I also saw Garanuug but since the forest that these beautiful animals used to live is dwindling, these species have retreated to the mountains. I have seen several groups of Garanuug in both Hagrin and Shilamadu mountains in the Sool region of Somalia. I also saw know the Gara'ad area in Mudug region is almost Somalia's Serengheti and Somalis over there really protect them. There were reports of foreign navies coming with helicopters to the shore and grabbing these animals and taking them away. The grand theft on Somalia's natural resources by foreign intruders has no limits
