The north is simply former British Somaliland, and all speakers of Qaldaan dialect. By extension, the north also includes Djibouti and parts of the Hawd region. The south is everyone else except those queer Sijuis. Its the same reason why Florida is traditionally not counted as the "deep south" despite being the furthest southern point of the continental United States---now, the furthest northern point in all of Somaliweyn is the settlement of Caluula in Bari, but it is part of the south for particularly the same reason, and that reason is based on culture and politics. None of this is geographically relevant, it is only culturally relevant but it does have some geographic connotations. For example, when we Somalis decided what was north and what was south, we were using cultural centers as talking points -- the northerners looked towards Xamar, Mudug, and Waamo to define the south, which are in fact geographically southward -- they did not particularly look towards quiet Bari or Nugaal as examples, and those are the only two regions that beat the north-south theory as a strictly geographic one.
