Translating

Postby 1_londoner » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:35 am

Do you folks ever forget simple words in af soomaali when you're translating? :?

Iv been teachin my aunt English Once a week for the past couple of weeks and lately I end up forgetting even the basic somali words. :|

Like yesterday I went round to her house and I was teaching her what to say and how to respond when theres a problem....Phrases like... 'This ticket machine doesn’t work, 'I cant find my passport', 'Im lost' etc. And suddenly I couldn’t remember what the Somali word for 'Problem' was. So I had to wait until she brought it up while i was teaching her all about the different scenarios in which there might be 'A problem'. Lol. Luckily there were pics on her worksheets that helped me out so didnt really need to use the word 'Dhibaato'.

The week before that I forgot how to say 'Word' in somaali. Ceeeeeeb badanaa    Again I had to wait before she said the word 'kalmed' and I was like...'Oh yeaaaaaaaaah'.

Sad because I know my af soomaali waa faantaastik :(

On another note - Whop, Whop...My 1_londoner nick has returned!

I used to avoid taking looong pauses (which I was known for) and I sometimes used to beat around the bush and describe the damn word to them :| .. uff them were the days

Shawty...Wale its embarrassing sometimes... but I mean, it could be worse.....At least we're not a regular Somali-Yank like Perfect Order, having to say the usual 'Somali ma-garnee-yo' to any somali passerby asking for directions.
