Westldn- Somali's are like this, I was listening to the radio the other day and this linguist lady was talking about her expierences learning chinese, and how her whole two years she was there she never learned the word plz only thankyou. A friend of her explained as this, in the chinese cultural if you use words like please and thankyou you are essentially creating a formal relationship between you and the other person, it is offenseive to use those words especially to friends, they say things like "give me" and "I want". And I realized Somali's are the same exact way I didn't know how to say Please until I got older only to find out it is an arabic word, and thank you I barely heard it. When I was younger I use to just grab what I needed from friends and expected them to do the same, and wallahi I use to be offended when they would ask me for it or say Please, cuz I would feel embarrassed. I do it now because it is just this culture even tho we do it so much, it doesn't have real meaning anymore, just hollow expressions that are overused.
