afisoone, most midgaans are treated alright...it is just different when it comes to marriage. I know some people still marry midgaan and people are changing more and more....so a few years from now, no one will care about all this qabiil bs. I don't think it is good to play the victim card unless your community stands to gain something from it. Otherwise it is not really empowering...it is just pitiful.

yap i have a madhiban friend he is proud of being madhiban and he neve being descriminated against him..coz he grew up in xamar..but his cousins from hargeisa try 2 hide their qawiil coz they faced alott discrimination against them.

Some say they were different ethnic groups who were defeated in battles. We at least know Gabooye (Madhibaan, Muusa Dheriyo, Hawle) had their own languages. I am not sure if that language is still alive.

Some say due to their small numbers and not being part of the big Somali clans (Daarood, Hawiye, Isaaq, Dir, Digil/Mirifle, etc), people have looked them down since they were not Laandheere.

Some bogus story tellers state "they have eaten dead animals" and therefore not fit to intermarry and should not be respected.

In my view the 1st one is the closest. The Yibir were once a powerful clan and actually fielded at least 400 men who were both horsemen and infantary to the battle of Fatxul-Habash. I think the discrimination started later on. Most of the discrimination comes from the nomadic Somalis who did not write before 1972 and therefore had no idea about the contribution of these people to the Somali and Islamic history.

There's is a book written about the Yibir by Mahmood Gaildon, a Somali scientist who graduated from Columbia University with double Masters in physics and Medical Psysics. You can order it via the internet, i haven't read it yet.
