Bosaso tax collection

Postby waryaa » Thu Oct 21, 2010 7:25 am

Have u ever had a knock on your door and the mailman asked you to sign a registered letter from IRS? Yes? That fast heartbeat before you open the letter is a child's play comparing to Bosaso local government.

Now, i know why the word canshuur (tax in somali) is synonymous with subjugation! A skinny guy with four or five armed/camouflaged men comes to your office and demands money. You say do you guys have an office where we can come and discuss this matter with authorities? The skinny guy says I am the authority, you pay this much money now or u'll spend the nite in jail. No wonder why these men have no sympathy from the public when they get assassinated in broad daylight.

bro hyper, he wanted to get some tax money that had already been paid and we could not convince him that his numbers were wrong. @ the end I had to jump on to the back seat of the argument since i am not familiar with the norms around here. Others convinced him @ last and e and his bodyguards left us. Free at last

Another office in downstairs was not that lucky. They took an exec and his assistant because of what they described as a "foul language". The foul language was they asked the tax collector about his tribe and laughed at him. It was like adeer qolomaa tahay? that's irrelevant. another person said I know he him and he is ogaden. Then the exec laughed and said adoo ogadena miyaa bosaso tax xaaraan ah iiga qaadaysaa. The rest is history, the exec and his assistant were taken away.
